This course integrates the principles of STEAM education with a focus on practical applications for addressing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. Participants will explore how Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines can contribute to sustainable development. The course emphasizes hands-on activities, project-based learning, and collaborative approaches to empower educators and professionals to drive positive change in their communities.

Daily Program

Day 1: Introduction to STEAM, SDGs, and Hands-on Activities
  • Overview of the 17 SDGs with emphasis on SDG 4 (Quality Education).
  • Introduction to STEAM principles and their role in sustainable development.
  • Introductory hands-on activities related to SDG 4.
  • Introduction to LEGO WeDo 2.0 material and application.
Day 2: Exploring STEAM with Simple WeDo 2.0 Projects
  • Understanding motion and sensors with a focus on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
  • How a simple robotic mechanism can contribute to SDG 9.
  • Hands-on project: Designing a WeDo 2.0 project for SDG 9 impact.
  • Workshop on integrating technology and arts in educational practices.
Day 3: Advancing with Scratch 3.0 and LEGO WeDo 2.0
  • Introduction to Scratch 3.0: Interface and simple coding for SDG 13 (Climate Action).
  • Integration of LEGO WeDo 2.0 into Scratch 3.0 for climate-related projects.
  • Exploring advanced robotic mechanisms with applications for SDG 13.
  • Hands-on project: Creating a project-based lesson plan addressing climate action.
Day 4: Understanding Sustainable Development Goals
  • Social and environmental impact of SDGs, with a spotlight on SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
  • Technological challenges and innovations for achieving SDG 7.
  • Examples of good practice around the globe related to SDG 7.
  • Integrating SDGs into educational procedures.
  • Open project: Each group selects an SDG, produces a lesson plan focused on SDG 7.
Day 5: Cross-Disciplinary Collaborative Projects and Presentation
  • Teams collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects addressing multiple SDGs.
  • Presentation preparation for collaborative projects.
  • Presentation of collaborative projects to peers.
  • Classroom role-playing: Groups teach their lessons to others playing the role of pupils.
  • Reflection and action plans for integrating learnings into participants' work
  • Closing ceremony, certificate distribution, and celebration.

The course will feature a unique opportunity for participants to engage in a collaborative project with external organizations actively involved in sustainable development.
